New infrastructure will be built in the region if necessary: Foreign Minister on lifting Armenia's blockade after 30 years of isolation
YEREVAN, October 27. /ARKA/. Armenia has been isolated for over 30 years, and now the two countries (Armenia and Azerbaijan) have agreed to lift the blockade and, if necessary, build new infrastructure, stated Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan.
"We are talking about fully lifting the blockade on transport infrastructure between the two countries. This primarily means lifting the blockade on Armenia, but it should be noted that efforts to lift the blockade on a large scale, based on generally accepted and agreed-upon principles, also include establishing communications between Azerbaijan and its exclave Nakhichevan (through Armenia)," Mirzoyan noted during a parliamentary discussion of the 2026 draft state budget.
According to him, the infrastructure through which these communications are to be laid will also be commissioned and used by the Republic of Armenia.
The minister emphasized that the unblocked roads, including the Azerbaijan-Nakhichevan section passing through Armenia, will operate entirely under Armenia's jurisdiction, and "all pretensions about communications being controlled by third countries have vanished."
Regarding the implementation of the TRIPP project, Mirzoyan reported that Armenia and the United States are currently in intensive contact and negotiations on technical issues regarding the company that will be responsible for implementing the route.-0-
