Nikol Pashinyan explained why Armenia adopted a law on the EU accession process

YEREVAN, September 29. /ARКА/. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan clarified the reasons behind Armenia's adoption of a law concerning the EU accession process.

"In March of this year, the National Assembly passed a law regarding the EU accession process, which holds significant importance for our agenda," Pashinyan stated from the podium of the UN General Assembly.

He noted that this law serves as "not only an indication of the unprecedented level of our relations with the EU, but also as direct evidence of our dedication to democratic values."

"Many are inquiring about when Armenia will join the EU and how feasible this is. Firstly, two of our four neighboring countries are candidates for EU membership. Additionally, the passage of the law on the EU accession process acts as a motivation for us to persistently pursue reforms," Pashinyan elaborated.

He underscored that Armenia aims to align itself with EU standards on an institutional level.

"Without adhering to these standards, it is unfeasible to become a member of the European Union. Thus, when Armenia's standards align with those of the EU, two possibilities will present themselves: either we will gain acceptance into the EU, or we will not. If we are accepted, it will be a significant achievement; if not, we will have fulfilled the essential objective of evolving into a nation that meets contemporary, advanced standards. Our aspiration to align with EU standards is not a geopolitical decision, but rather a democratic one," Pashinyan concluded.-0-.
