YEREVAN, April 16. /ARKA/. Nikol Pashinyan, the leader of the opposition Yelk parliamentary bloc, who was taken to a hospital because of injuries received during a clash with riot police in downtown Yerevan earlier today, is back to thousands of activists, protesting against former president Serzh Sargsyan who is set to become prime minister.
Pashinyan told reporters that the attempts to block the building of the National Assembly will continue ‘without violence and the use of force" in order to prevent Serzh Sargsyan from becoming the country's leader for a third time.
He also provided details of how he received injuries. "I climbed over the barbed wire, and I realized that I had pulled away from the protesters. I grabbed the wire and got injured. As for the edema of the eye, it seems to me that this happened as a result of a blast wave from the explosion of a stun grenade,’ said Pashinyan.
The ruling Republican Party of Armenia and its junior coalition partner –the Armenian Revolutionary Federation/ Dashnaktsutyun, formally nominated today Sargsyan as candidate for the post of prime minister. Sargsyan is expected to be elected by parliament on Tuesday. -0-
