YEREVAN, April 24./ARKA/. Not only Armenia should condemn the Armenian Genocide, but also all the countries worldwide, deputy foreign minister of Armenia Shavarsh Kocharyan said Wednesday.

On April 24, the Armenians from all over the world commemorate the victims of the Armenian Genocide of 1915 committed by the Ottoman Empire. This year is the 98th anniversary of the Genocide.

“Over the recent years, we have seen some positive tendencies in international recognition of the Armenian Genocide, first of all due to the fact that the world realizes the condemnation should come not only from Armenia, but all the other countries,” Kocharyan said as he laid flowers at the Genocide Memorial today.

He also noted it is not the right time to request the international court bodies to eliminate the Genocide consequences  as “there are some stages which we still have to pass through.”

Kocharyan said besides the State commission in charge of organizing events to the 100th anniversary of Genocide, Ministry of Foreign Affairs had also assembled Commission for Genocide Affairs. It promoted the formation of the commission in charge of organizing the events to the 100th anniversary of the Genocide worldwide.

“Different states have been demonstrating their political positions over the Genocide recently, and eventually  we will witness the day when Turkey will be ready to recognize this fact,” he added.

The Armenian Genocide was the first genocide committed in XX century. Turkey denies the accusation of massacres and the killing of one and a half million Armenians during World War I.

The Armenian Genocide  was  recognized by  Russia, Germany, France, Netherlands, Vatican, Lithuania, Slovakia, Sweden, Venezuela, Lebanon, France,  42  U.S. states, as well as by the parliaments of Greece, Cyprus, Argentina, Belgium, National Council of Switzerland, Canada,  Poland, Italy, other countries as well as the  European Parliament, the World Council of Churches. -0-
