YEREVAN, June 6. /ARKA/. The number of applicants from Armenia’s regions to the Department of Russian Philology at Yerevan State University has been growing over the recent years, the Dean of the Department Pavel Balayan said.
“If before the applicants to our department were from the capital, today about 60-70% of them are from the regions, including Gyumri, Ghapan, and other towns of the republic,” he said at the press conference on Wednesday.
Balayan noted that majority of the applicants come from families with average income as well as intellectuals’ backgrounds.
In spite of the fact that Russian language has slightly lost its role in the Armenian society, the number of students pursuing to study Russian Philology is not decreasing, she added.
