One year after war: Pashinyan and Harutyunyan discussed overcoming consequences

YEREVAN, September 27. /ARKA/. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had a telephone conversation today with Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) President Arayik Harutyunyan, Pashinyan’s press service reported.

It said the two men discussed the process of overcoming the consequences of the 44-day war in Artsakh last autumn.

In particular, they discussed the return of the Armenian prisoners of war still held in Azerbaijan, the solution of security issues, as well as ensuring a normal life in Artsakh, improving the infrastructure and stepping up housing construction.

Both sides stressed that the governments of Armenia and Artsakh will make every effort to revive and develop Artsakh, which they said will be a worthy furtherance of the cause of the heroic Armenians who died in the 44-day war.

On September 27, 2020, Azerbaijani armed forces, backed by Turkey and foreign mercenaries and terrorists, attacked Nagorno-Karabakh along the entire front line using rocket and artillery weapons, heavy armored vehicles, military aircraft and prohibited types of weapons such as cluster bombs and  phosphorus weapons.

After 44 days of the war, on November 9, the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a statement on the cessation of all hostilities. According to the document, the town of Shushi, the districts of Agdam, Kelbajar and Lachin were handed over to Azerbaijan, with the exception of a 5-kilometer corridor connecting Karabakh with Armenia.

A Russian peacekeeping contingent was deployed along the contact line in Karabakh and along the Lachin corridor. -0-
