Opposition activists and supporters march towards presidential palace in Yerevan
YEREVAN, May 20. /ARKA/. Anti-government protesters in Yerevan, led by two parliament-represented opposition alliances- Hayastan and Pativ Unem- started today morning marching from the downtown France Square towards the presidential residence demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
The president of Armenia is expected to receive today his Lithuanian counterpart Gitanas Nauseda who arrived in Armenia late on Thursday from Azerbaijan. The opposition says they want to convey to the president of Lithuania that the Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has no mandate to negotiate (with Azerbaijan) on behalf of the country.
Protesters are holding placards with photos of police officers who have used violence against protesters.
Yesterday evening Ishkhan Saghatelyan, a deputy parliament speaker and one of the opposition leaders, said to hundreds of supporters that the opposition has a special program for May 20 but did not disclose the details. He said the opposition will not block streets in Yerevan on May 20 and invited opposition supporters to gather again on France Square in the evening.-0-
