YEREVAN, September 13. /ARKA/. Levon Zurabyan, a parliament member from the oppositional Armenian National Congress (HAK), questioned today the chances of the newly appointed prime minister Karen Karapetyan to achieve meaningful progress, saying by changing the government, the top Armenian authorities tried only to "repaint" the façade of the regime.
On Tuesday, president Serzh Sargsyan appointed former mayor of Yerevan Karen Karapetyan as new prime minister.
"No prime minister can work without the support of the parliamentary majority. In this case the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (HHK). At the same time, the question is whether the parliamentary majority will agree to give up monopolies and corruption? The answer is ‘no.’ Therefore, despite his personal motives, Karen Karapetyan will not be able to do anything that will run counter to the ruling majority’s interests,’ said Zurabyan.
According to him, by changing the government, the authorities want only to appear in a new light.
‘Under a corrupt system it does not matter who will be prime minister as personal qualities are not important at all,’ he said. -0-
