YEREVAN, April 29. /ARKA/. Head of Heritage opposition faction Ruben Hakobyan withdrew his candidacy at the election of the speaker.
There are currently two parliament deputies running for the post – head of the Republican Party of Armenia faction Galust Sahakyan and self-nominated member of the opposition Armenian National Congress faction, former premier Hrant Bagratyan.
Hakobyan said he wants the non-coalition ‘quaternion’ to boycott the vote.
The recent concerted action helped the four non-coalition parties increase the rating of the parliament, dictate political will and make the ruling majority resort to self-defense, the opposition MP said.
The non-coalition ‘quaternion’ is holding consultations to combine their efforts.
Hakobyan said the party nominated him for the election as Heritage’s principle is not to disengage from political struggles.
Head of Dashnaktsutiun faction Armen Rustamyan, in his turn, said the faction will refrain from voting.
“It is not a matter of persons, it is our stand. We will be cooperating with the new speaker, whoever is elected, for solving the problems”, Rustamyan said.
Head of Prosperous Armenia faction Naira Zohrabyan said self-nomination of Hrant Bagratyan was a surprise for them.
Hrant Bagratyan himself said he is not going to disengage from struggle and will not allow the ruling Republican Party to hold a one-man race.
According to vice-speaker Eduard Sharmazanov, the counting chamber will schedule the speaker’s election today.
The speaker’s post has been vacant after Hovik Abrahamyan was appointed as premier to replace Tigran Sargsyan who resigned on April 3. –0--
