YEREVAN, December 22. /ARKA/. Opposition parties are holding a rally now in Republic Square in the center of Yerevan. The opposition also announced a nationwide strike, calling on people not to go to work or study, and to join their event. The protesters demand the resignation of the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan.

Gegham Manukyan , a representative of Armenian Revolutionary Federation/Dashnaktsutiun, who is director of the information-analytical service of Yerkir Media TV Channel, in response to a question from a correspondent of Novosti-Armenia news agency, said that they respect citizens, therefore they will not count how many people will take part in the action today. He also said that similar actions are taking place in the regions of Armenia.

About Political Developments in Armenia

In recent weeks, 17 opposition parties, with some figures from culture area, staged protests in Yerevan demanding the resignation of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

They say they are unhappy about the signing by Pashinyan on November 9 with the leaders of Russia and Azerbaijan of a statement on the cessation of hostilities in Artsakh, which provides for significant territorial concessions in favor of Azerbaijan.

Opposition parties insist on the resignation of the head of government, and in the future - the holding of early parliamentary elections, proposing former statesman Vazgen Manukyan as temporary prime minister, who would organize the election in the way they want. Manukyan himself will stop his party activities and will not take part in the elections.

Earlier, Manukyan issued a statement in which, he pointed to the need to form an interim government, in order "to overcome the internal political crisis".

The tasks would be, in particular, to turn, through negotiations, all unclear aspects of the trilateral statement on Artsakh in favor of Armenia and the issue of security (restoration of the Army and combat capability, creation of a modern army, establishing special relations with Russia and returning to the negotiation process on Karabakh).

Also, he said that among the tasks of the government will be the issues of finding the missing, returning prisoners and wounded, helping the families of the killed servicemen and refugees from Artsakh, as well as creating conditions in the republic for people to return there. Improving the atmosphere in Armenia is also an important issue.

About Artsakh War

From September 27 to November 9, the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, with the participation of Turkey and foreign mercenaries and terrorists recruited by it, carried out aggression against Artsakh at the frontline and in the rear using rocket and artillery weapons, heavy armored vehicles, military aircraft and prohibited types of weapons (cluster bombs, phosphorus weapons). The strikes were delivered also at civil and military targets on the territory of Armenia.

On November 9, the leaders of the Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a statement on the cessation of all hostilities in Artsakh. According to the document, the parties stop at their positions. The city of Shushi, Agdam, Kelbajar and Lachin regions pass over to Azerbaijan, with the exception of a 5-kilometer corridor connecting Karabakh with Armenia. A Russian peacekeeping contingent will be deployed along the contact line in Karabakh and along the Lachin corridor. Internally displaced persons and refugees are returning to Karabakh and adjacent regions, prisoners of war, hostages and other detained persons and bodies of the dead are exchanged. -0-
