OSCE suspends monitoring on contact line. Armenian defense ministry commenting

The Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Ambassador Andrzej Kasprzyk issued yesterday a statement. He said in his statement that the ongoing situation following the spread of COVID-19 has led to the closure of international borders throughout the region, travel restrictions for international and local staff, as well as restrictions put in place to avoid face-to-face contact to reduce the risk of infection.

YEREVAN, March 19. /ARKA/. The Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Ambassador Andrzej Kasprzyk issued yesterday a statement. He said in his statement that the ongoing situation following the spread of COVID-19 has led to the closure of international borders throughout the region, travel restrictions for international and local staff, as well as restrictions put in place to avoid face-to-face contact to reduce the risk of infection.
“In view of the above, and following consultations with the sides, monitoring exercises will be suspended until these restrictions are lifted. In the meantime, I continue to be in contact with the relevant military authorities,” Kasprzyk said in his statement.
Shushan Stepanyan, spokesperson for the Armenian defense ministry told Novosti-Armenia that this statement applies also to the OSCE Mission’s monitoring on the line of contact between Artsakh and Azerbaijan. In her words, all the planned monitoring exercises on the border will be suspended, and the defense ministry has been informed about that beforehand and it takes this decision with understanding. She also said that Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Ambassador Andrzej Kasprzyk maintains contacts with military leadership. -0---
