Pashinyan confirms his official invitation to Erdogan for European Community Summit in Yerevan
YEREVAN, November 4. /ARКА/. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that he has officially invited Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to attend the European Community Summit, which will be held in Yerevan in May 2026.
"I hope this invitation will be accepted. President Erdogan and I have met frequently in recent years. During my last visit to Turkey, I invited President Erdogan to attend the European Community Summit in Yerevan in May 2026. It would be wrong to comment on the possibility of President Erdogan's visit," Pashinyan said while answering questions at the Orbeli Forum, titled "Establishing Peace and Multilateral Cooperation," on Tuesday.
According to him, Armenia currently enjoys an exceptional situation: it has institutional ties with all countries in the region.
"We have never had a similar situation in the past." "We have always had fraternal and friendly ties with Georgia and Iran, but there was no institutional connection with Azerbaijan and Turkey. This is crucial news," Pashinyan said.
He stated that the concepts of "Armenian-Turkish" or "Armenian-Azerbaijani relations" are not identical to "Armenia-Turkey or "Armenia-Azerbaijan relations."
"Until now, we often use the terms 'Armenian-Russian relations,' 'Armenian-Turkish relations,' and 'Armenian-Azerbaijani relations,' which don't convey the essence of what we're talking about. Because Armenian-Turkish relations are not the relations between Armenia and Turkey, but something completely different. It's not that there are no common ground. The same can be said about Armenia and Azerbaijan," the Armenian prime minister believes.
According to Pashinyan, relations between Armenia and Turkey are on the right track.
"The question here is the speed of completing this journey, which is influenced not only by the political will of the two countries but also by certain gravitational factors," Nikol Pashinyan emphasized.-0-
