Pashinyan: Washington Declaration presents significant opportunities for the region's economic growth

YEREVAN, August 19. /ARКА/. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that the signing of the Washington Declaration creates substantial prospects for the economic advancement of the entire region.

"In practical terms, this will facilitate new avenues for railway collaboration between Armenia and Iran, particularly via the Nakhichevan-Julfa railway line. This will establish railway connectivity towards Armenia and subsequently to the Black Sea," Pashinyan remarked during a briefing with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Yerevan.

He addressed the matter of ensuring the security of future communication routes.

"The communication pathways traversing Armenia will be solely under the jurisdiction of the Republic of Armenia, with security being guaranteed by Armenia itself, rather than any external nation," Pashinyan stressed.

Regarding previous Armenian-Iranian discussions, the Prime Minister highlighted that both nations have reached a mutual understanding that it is time to elevate their relations to a strategic partnership.

"With President Pezeshkian, we thoroughly examined the issues of peace in the region and the unblocking of economic infrastructures, which are among our government's primary priorities," Pashinyan noted.

He added that Armenia and the Armenian populace greatly value the clear stance of the Islamic Republic of Iran concerning the territorial integrity, sovereignty, and inviolability of Armenia's borders.

"The inviolability of international borders is crucial for both Armenia and Iran," the Armenian Prime Minister underscored.

On August 8 President Donald Trump signed a deal with the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan to end decades of fighting, a diplomatic victory that also helps Trump in his push to present himself as a peacemaker on the world stage.

The seven-point declaration, which was signed after the trilateral meeting involving Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on August 8 in Washington, encompasses the initialing of the 'Agreement on Peace and Interstate Relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan', a joint request to the OSCE for the dissolution of the Minsk Group mechanisms, and the unblocking of regional communications based on the principles of territorial integrity, sovereignty, and jurisdiction of the nations, as well as reciprocity.-0-
