YEREVAN, October 2. /ARKA/. Armenia has evidence of Turkey's direct military support to Azerbaijan, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said in an interview with the French newspaper Le Figaro.
On October 1, the presidents of Russia, the United States and France (as heads of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairing countries) issued a joint statement, calling on the parties to the Karabakh conflict to immediately end hostilities and sit down at the negotiating table.
“Russia, France and Iran have already announced that on September 27 the Turkish army was involved in a large-scale Azerbaijani offensive against Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh). High-ranking Turkish officials have publicly reaffirmed their support for Azerbaijan not only on the political and diplomatic fields but also on the battlefield. Azerbaijan is using Turkish UAVs and F-16s to bombard civilian settlements in Artsakh and Armenia," Pashinyan said.
The prime minister said also that the international community, in particular, the American society, should know that the F-16s produced in the United States are now being used to strike at the Armenians. He also stated that there is evidence that the Turkish military leadership is directly involved in carrying out the attacks.
“Ankara has sent military transport workers, ammunition, and military advisers to Baku,” Pashinyan said. The prime minister said that today's aggression is a continuation of the joint Turkish-Azerbaijani exercises launched in August.
“The attack on Nagorno-Karabakh is in fact the next stage of this operation. Azerbaijan and Turkey must be held accountable for this crime,” he said.
Pashinyan said that Azerbaijan, which suffered a defeat in the fighting this past July on the border with Armenia, turned to Ankara for help, and “it is obvious that it is Ankara that makes decisions on many important situational issues. Their goal is to disrupt the balance of regional forces in their favor.
“Turkey's goal is to strengthen its role and influence in the South Caucasus and upset the age-old status quo. It dreams of creating an empire similar to the sultanate, and embarked on a path that could lead to a fire in the region,” the head of the Armenian government said.
According to Armenian military sources, some 1,750 Azerbaijani soldiers have been killed in the hostilities launched by Azerbaijan on September 27 and more than 2,700 were wounded. Armenian troops have also destroyed 205 units of various armored vehicles, 1 Smerch, 1 Uragan and 3 TOS-1A multiple launch rocket systems, 107 UAVs, 10 helicopters and 5 warplanes.
According to the defense ministries of Armenia and Artsakh, more than 150 Armenian servicemen have been killed, several hundred have been injured. Also, 11 civilians in Artsakh were killed and over 60 were wounded. Armenia and Artsakh have declared martial law and full mobilization. -0-
