Pashinyan discusses Lachin corridor with Russian President, UN Secretary General
YEREVAN, February 24. /ARKA/. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had a telephone conversation with the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin late on Thursday, the Armenian government said.
It said the interlocutors referred to the humanitarian, environmental and energy crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh resulted from Azerbaijan's illegal blockade of the Lachin Corridor.
Pashinyan attached importance to the implementation of the necessary steps by the Russian Federation to overcome it.
At the same time, the Prime Minister emphasized the ruling of the UN International Court of Justice regarding the unblocking of the Lachin Corridor by Azerbaijan.
On Wednesday the International Court of Justice ruled that Azerbaijan must take steps “to ensure the unimpeded movement of persons, vehicles, and cargo along both directions of the Lachin corridor,” the only route between Nagorno-Karabakh and the outside world through Armenia being blocked since December 12.
Issues related to the implementation of the trilateral agreements of the leaders of Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan signed on November 9, 2020, January 11 and November 26, 2021 and October 31, 2022 were discussed.
The sides exchanged thoughts on the process of normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Nikol Pashinyan had also telephone conversation with UN Secretary General António Guterres․ The interlocutors touched upon the humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh resulted by Azerbaijan's illegal blockade of the Lachin Corridor and issues of how to overcome it.
In particular, issues related to sending a UN fact-finding mission to Nagorno-Karabakh and Lachin Corridor were discussed.
The sides emphasized the need to unblock the Lachin Corridor by Azerbaijan and the importance of its uninterrupted operation.
An agreement was reached to continue discussions on the issue of sending a UN mission. António Guterres noted that he will keep the issue in the center of attention.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the ruling of the UN International Court of Justice to meet Armenia's request on indication of provisional measures regarding the unblocking of the Lachin Corridor.
The interlocutors exchanged ideas on issues related to the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, protection of the rights and security of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh. -0-
