Pashinyan: snap parliamentary elections in Armenia scheduled for June 20

YEREVAN, March 18. /ARKA/. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said today that he had just met with the leader of the Prosperous Armenia Party Gagik Tsaukyan.

“At the meeting, we stated that the best way out of the current internal political situation is early parliamentary elections,” he wrote on his Facebook page.

“Taking into account also my discussions with the President of Armenia, the My Step faction, the head of the Bright Armenia Party Edmond Marukyan, early parliamentary elections will be held in Armenia on June 20 of this year," the prime minister said.

Nikol Pashinyan has been facing opposition demands to resign since he signed a peace deal in November with Azerbaijani and Russian leaders to end the 44-day war in Nagorno-Karabakh that claimed thousands of young lives, and saw Azerbaijan reclaim control over large parts of Nagorno-Karabakh and surrounding areas that had been held by Armenian forces for more than a quarter of a century. -0
