YEREVAN, October 1. /ARKA/. In a live Facebook broadcast Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said he is launching Monday consultations with political forces on holding early parliamentary elections.
"Starting today, we are beginning working consultations with major political parties on early elections, which I hope will soon become official consultations, and I hope that we will be able to come to an agreement with the parliamentary forces," Pashinyan said.
Pashinyan said early elections are a necessity, since many investors emphasize political stability of the country. In addition, according to the Prime Minister, the Armenian society considers the issue of elections a priority.
Pashinyan also said he hopes that citizens will not have to express their support for the idea of holding extraordinary elections to the National Assembly in one or another way, and that everything will be resolved during political consultations.
Pashinyan had previously stated that he did not exclude that he would take people to the streets to press the National Assembly to agree to hold early parliamentary elections.
Under the Armenian Constitution, the parliament can be dissolved only if the prime minister resigns and lawmakers twice fail to choose a replacement. Former president Serzh Sargsyan's Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) currently holds the largest number of seats in the National Assembly. -0-
