Police in Armenian capital begin detaining opposition supporters

YEREVAN, May 18. /ARKA/. The Armenian police began detaining opposition activists and supporters today morning for blocking roads across the capital Yerevan as part of a civil disobedience campaign seeking to make Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan resign.
Protesters, who attempt to disrupt traffic and step up pressure on Pashinyan’s government are calling on citizens to join their demands for Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's resignation.
Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Ishkhan Saghatelyan, representing the parliament-represented opposition Hayastan alliance, called yesterday evening on fellow citizens to expand the scale of the disobedience campaign.
On Tuesday the police made more than 400 detentions, a daily record high since the start of the Armenian opposition’s civil disobedience campaign on May 1.
Saghatelyan admitted earlier that their goal is to create “diarchy” in the country and make Pashinyan’s resignation inevitable.
The opposition accuses Pashinyan of planning to place Nagorno-Karabakh under Azerbaijani control. -0-
