YEREVAN, July 12. /ARKA/. French Ambassador to Armenia, Henri Reynaud, praised today his country’s relations with Armenia saying both political and economic ties are at the highest level. According to him, this is evidenced by periodic high-level meetings.
Speaking at a news conference he said another proof of the high level relations between the two countries is France’s involvement in the OSCE Minsk Group as a co-chair country, which works to help resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict through negotiations.
"As for economic relations between the two countries, they also recorded a very high growth, because France is a leader in terms of investing in Armenia," he said, adding that the new economic projects will come soon.
The ambassador recalled that during his official visit to France in November 2012, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan visited the Chamber of Commerce in Lyon, where he met with French businessmen.
The ambassador expressed hope for intensification of trade relations between the two countries. "I would like to see the level of trade and economic relations between the two countries to reach the level of investment," he said.
According to the National Statistical Service of Armenia, French investments in the real sector of the Armenian economy in 2012 amounted to $230.4 million, an increase of 2.3 times compared to 2011. The trade turnover between Armenia and France was about $72 million, a decrease of almost 22 percent from the previous year. -0-
