YEREVAN, March 31, /ARKA/. A public opinion poll conducted by BS/The Gallup Organization together with the Armenian Association of Sociology has found out that 30% of voters will cast their ballots for the governing Republican Party of Armenia in the April 2 parliamentary elections. The poll was conducted on March 18-27 embracing 1,005 eligible respondents across the country.
The Tsarukyan bloc, consisting of Prosperous Armenia Party and a small party, came second with a 29% popular support. Yelk bloc was third with 8% support.
Rasa Alisaushkiene, representing the BS / The Gallup Organization, told a news conference today that the poll was conducted as close to the elections date as possible, but the final alignment will be clear only on the voting day.
"We asked people if they would take part in the elections, and about 50% of all the polled said they definitely decided to go, while 35% said they may go. Practice shows that half of them go to the polls and the other half does not," added Alisaushkiene.
The April 22 elections will be the first elections in Armenia after the adoption of constitutional reforms in 2015, providing for a transition to a parliamentary form of government after the expiry of the term of office of the incumbent president in 2018. Nine political parties and blocs will participate in the elections. -0-
