Powers of ruling Civil Contract faction MP Aren Mkrtchyan terminated

YEREVAN, September 1. /ARKA/. The powers of MP Aren Mkrtchyan from the ruling Civil Contract faction have been officially terminated.
Mkrtchyan submitted his resignation to parliament speaker Alen Simonyan on August 25. Previously, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had announced that Mkrtchyan would be appointed as the governor of the Lori region.
"The parliamentary powers of MP Aren Mkrtchyan, who was elected from the national list of the Civil Contract party, have been terminated," the speaker stated in an announcement.
Mkrtchyan was elected to the National Assembly through the proportional electoral list of the ruling Civil Contract party during the 2021 parliamentary elections.
The position of Governor of the Lori region had been vacant following the appointment of Aram Ghazaryan as Chief of Police of the Republic of Armenia after he was relieved of his previous duties.
According to the "Rules of Procedure of the National Assembly", the Chairman of the Parliament issues a statement if the applicant withdraws their resignation in writing within a week of submitting the application. If the deputy does not retract their application within that timeframe, a protocol regarding the termination of their powers is prepared, signed, and published by the Speaker. The resignation is deemed accepted from the moment the protocol is published.-0-
