YEREVAN, June 6. /ARKA/. The leader of the Prosperous Armenia opposition party Gagik Tsarukyan accused the government of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan of being unable to carry out revolutionary reforms, saying also it failed the development of the economy, the foreign policy and can not cope with the epidemic of coronavirus.
Speaking at emergency meeting of his party's political council on Friday, Tsarukyan also accused the prime minister of attempting to put the blame for all these failures on ordinary citizens.
Tsarukyan said the government members lack managerial experience and therefore all of them must be replaced.
Prime Minister’s spokeswoman Mane Gevorgyan lashed back at Tsarukyan’s statement on the same day saying in a Facebook post that Tsarukyan is simply concerned about the process of investigating several criminal cases involving money laundering, election bribes, tax evasion and corruption.
'If Mr. Tsarukyan believes that his statements will make investigator drop the criminal cases, he is wrong. In Armenia, everyone is equal before the law, also before the law on seizure of illegally acquired property, which may also cause Mr. Tsarukyan's concern," she said.
In retaliation, spokeswoman for Tsarukyan Ivetta Tonoyan, said today morning they had expected that the government, which has completely failed the fight against coronavirus and left society alone with the virus and social needs, is in a state of panic.
"However, we did not imagine the real scale of the panic. Only a frightened government that has not entered into a dialogue with the public can respond to objective criticism in this way, especially that Tsarukyan’s main motive was a call for national unity and solidarity ," she said.
She said Tsarukyan urges the government to stop political blackmail and return to the field of dialogue and civilized debate. 'The state of emergency should not be used to“ shut up ”the opposition, but to“ shut up ”the coronavirus,” Tonoyan said. -0-
