Putin says Russia’s relations with Armenia are ‘smooth’
YEREVAN, December 20 /ARKA/. During his end-of-year news conference today Russian President Vladimir Putin said Russia’s relations with Armenia were ‘smooth’ after the early parliamentary elections on December 9.

In response to a question from an Armenian journalist about how Russia would restore its policy towards Armenia after the elections, Putin said: "What should we restore? We have nothing that has collapsed, and therefore there is nothing to restore."

He stressed that relations with Armenia are "smooth", saying Armenia is a strategic partner of Russia not only in the region, but also in the whole world, as a member of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU).

"We need to develop what has been created by previous generations of leaders. Historically the Armenian people are the closest ally of the Russian people in the South Caucasus, and I hope it will be so in the future," he said.

Putin noted that it is necessary to proceed from the realities in the world, the region, as well as from the needs and bilateral opportunities.

"We will discuss this with Mr. Pashinyan soon. He is due to come (to Moscow) next week," the Russian president said. -0-
