YEREVAN, July 25. /ARKA/. The revolted men, who seized the police regiment building in Yerevan on July 17, have put their demands to the authorities.
Alec Yenikomshian, a member of the group coordinating the revolted men’s steps, speaking Monday morning at a briefing, said if the rebels are not provided with meals and supply of the cut-off water, communication and electricity is not resumed before 20:00 today, then civil disobedience spots will be created all over the country.
In his words, an attempt was undertaken yesterday to break the wall of the building. He said the tension is escalating – a military helicopter is flying above the territory and snipers are deployed.
It means the authorities have no intention to negotiate in peaceful atmosphere. He expressed hope that reason will triumph and bloodshed will be avoided.
An armed group stormed a police station in Armenia's capital Yerevan on Sunday and took some officers hostage, demanding the release of Zhirayr Sefilian, the jailed opposition leader of Founding Parliament movement, and the resign of the president.
According to the police, one police officer had been killed and five others and one attacker wounded in the assault.
Two top police officials, Deputy Police Chief Vardan Egiazaryan and Yerevan Deputy Police Chief Valeri Osipyan, were among the captured officers.
Hundreds of people gathered around the building to bar the law enforcement units from storming the building and to prevent а bloody outcome. The police units cleaned up the territory of demonstrators Wednesday night and detained dozens of people. On the next day people gathered again.
As many as 51 people injured in the clashes, including 28 policemen, received medical services that night.
All the hostages have gradually been released by the rebels. --0----
