Republican Party should immediately begin implementing its election promises: Association head says
YEREVAN, May 23. /ARKA/. Vazgen Safarian, chairman of the Association of Armenian Commodity Producers, called on the Republican Party of Armenia to immediately begin implementing its election promises.

"The presidential election is upcoming (it is to take place in 2013 February), and promises which the Armenian president made during the parliamentary election campaign now must begin to be implemented, since president Serzh Sargsyan will certainly seek reelection," Safarian said to a news conference.

He reminded Sargsyan’s words that "the government should focus on industry, increase support to farmers as well as create new jobs.’
Safarian argued that to live up to these pledges the Republican Party should form a government, consisting of seasoned pros to advance the reforms. He also spoke against formation of a coalition government on grounds that each Cabinet minister will be pursuing his or her party instructions and ignore prime minister’s orders.

The Republican Party won a landslide victory in the election with 44.02% of the vote. In the new parliament it will control 69 seats out of 131. The Prosperous Armenia of businessman Gagik Tsarukian won 30.12% and will control 37 seats, the opposition Armenian National Congress won 7.08% and will have 7 seats.

Zharangutyun (Heritage), the Armenian Revolutionary Federation and Orinats Yerkir (Country of Law) won over 5% just enough to overcome the threshold. They will control from 5 to 6 seats each. -0-
