YEREVAN, April 26. /ARKA/. The Republican Party of Armenia fully supports the acting prime minister Karen Karapetyan as its candidate for the post of prime minister, a deputy parliament speaker Eduard Sharmazanov said today. He said Karapetyan has been mandated by the party to hold talks with any political figure and political party.

He added that the Republican Party will promote political dialogue and solution of problems exclusively in accordance with the Armenian Constitution.

"The parliamentary faction of the Republican Party of Armenia within the framework established by the law and the constitution will hold political consultations before May 1 to discuss a candidacy for the post of prime minister and will come to a common decision," Sharmazanov said.

According to him, any decision will be unanimous, and will be based on security, stability and the supremacy of the interests of the state.

"The party is ready to discuss any issue without preconditions. We are ready to get acquainted with the agenda of our colleagues, to seek a way out of the current internal political situation through dialogue," Sharmazanov said. He noted that a new political situation has developed in Armenia, and no one can deny this.

Thousands of opposition leader Nikol Pashinyan’s supporters resumed protests across the Armenian capital Yerevan today morning. The opposition says after making prime minister Serzh Sargsyan to step down their next goal is to elect a popular prime minister and make the ruling Republican Party that has the majority in the parliament, cede power.

The Armenian popular movement nominated Nikol Pashinyan for the post of prime minister at an anti-government demonstration in Yerevan on April 25. -0-
