Ruben Rubinyan elected vice speaker of Armenian parliament

YEREVAN, August 3. /ARKA/. By a vote of 70 Ruben Rubinyan, the head of the parliamentary committee on foreign affairs in Armenia’s previous parliament, was elected today as vice speaker of the National Assembly.
Rubinyan was elected to parliament in the June 20 early elections on Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s Civil Contract party.
The opposition factions Hayastan (Armenia) and Pativ Unem (I have Honor), nominated Ishkhan Saghatelyan for the post of vice-speaker. They boycotted Rubinyan's elections.
Armenia’s National Assembly comprises the Civil Contract party, which won 53.91% of the votes (71 seats), the Hayastan (Armenia) bloc (29 seats), and the Pativ Unem (I have Honor) bloc (7 seats).
The parliament consists of 107 lawmakers, down from 132 in the previous parliament.
Hakob Arshakyan (former minister of high-tech industry) is expected to become the second vice speaker representing the majority faction.
Under Armenian law, the third vice-speaker must represent the opposition minority. -0-
