YEREVAN, June 6. /ARKA/. Russia is a supporter of peace and stability in the region, said the Chairperson of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Valentina Matviyenko at a meeting with the Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia Alen Simonyan.

As reported by the press service of the Armenian parliament, within the framework of the discussion of regional developments, Simonyan confirmed Armenia's position on establishing lasting peace in the region, noting that Armenia is waiting for the Azerbaijani side to sign the peace agreement already agreed upon by the parties.

He also drew Matviyenko's attention to the problem of prisoners, illegally detained persons in Azerbaijan and missing persons.

Various issues on the bilateral agenda were also discussed – both political and economic, as well as educational and cultural, with an emphasis, in particular, on the development of inter-parliamentary cooperation.

Simonyan noted that such mutual visits are important from the point of view of developing bilateral relations, emphasizing the importance of the fact that Matviyenko’s visit is taking place in the context of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. -0-
