Russia remains committed to its security obligations to Armenia – Ambassador

YEREVAN, November 25. /ARKA/. Russia remains committed to its obligations to ensure Armenia's security, said Sergey Kopyrkin, Russian Ambassador to Armenia.

“Speaking about issues of ensuring Armenia’s security, we maintain the position that there are no comparable real alternatives to Russian-Armenian allied cooperation, including within the framework of the CSTO,” Kopyrkin stated in an interview with ‘’Izvestia’’, responding to a question about Armenia’s possible participation in the CSTO Collective Security Council session on November 28 in Astana, the resumption of Armenia’s full participation in the CSTO, and Armenia’s suspension of its involvement in the CSTO and its impact on the development of relations between Moscow and Yerevan.

According to him, Russia remains committed to its obligations to ensure Armenia's security, both bilaterally and within the framework of the CSTO.

“We also count on the active participation of our Armenian partners in joint efforts to develop an equal and indivisible security system on the Eurasian continent, an idea first proposed by Russian President Vladimir Putin on June 14 of this year during a meeting with the leadership of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and reiterated at the recent BRICS summit in Kazan,” Kopyrkin said.

Earlier, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that "the CSTO poses threats to Armenia's security, its future existence, and sovereignty." -0-
