Russia actively promotes peace agenda in Armenian-Azerbaijani negotiations – ambassador
YEREVAN, May 9. /ARKA/. Russia is having active contact with Armenian and Azerbaijani authorities to promote the peace agenda, Russian Ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopyrkin said today.
"We are providing mediation services. I hope that soon, there will be a meeting in Moscow. I think a corresponding announcement, will be made in time," the ambassador told journalists during a visit to Victory Park in Yerevan to mark an anniversary of the victory over the Nazi Germany in WW II.
The ambassador also touched on the activities of the Russian peacekeeping forces in Nagorno-Karabakh. Thus, according to the diplomat, the peacekeepers solve the tasks they face despite all the existing problems.
'Their goal is to contribute to the normalization of the situation. This also includes the opening of the Lachin corridor. So, we speak and work with the parties to provide impetus to work in all formats of the normalization of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations, namely, the unblocking economic as well as transport communications between the two countries, and moving towards a peace treaty," the Russian ambassador summarized.
Kopyrkin stressed that Russia takes its allied obligations towards Armenia very seriously.
"Russia is making every possible effort to bring about an era of peace, security and development here. It takes very seriously what is going on here," the Russian diplomat said.-0-
