Russian Foreign Ministry on provocation on Armenian-Azerbaijani border
YEREVAN, April 12. /ARKA/. Russian border guards have taken measures to ease escalation of tension that erupted on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border on Tuesday, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a press briefing on Wednesday.
"On April 11, there was an armed incident on the line of contact on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border near the Tegh settlement. Unfortunately, according to the available information, there are dead and wounded. Representatives of the Russian armed forces and Border Guard Service immediately contacted responsible officials in Armenia and Azerbaijan and took de-escalation measures," Zakharova said.
She said that the incident once again confirms the need for Baku and Yerevan to show mutual restraint, as well as strict compliance with the trilateral agreements.
On April 11, around 4 p.m., Azerbaijani armed forces fired at Armenian soldiers carrying out engineering work near Tegh community of Syunik region. At around 17:30 Azerbaijani armed forces fired mortars in the same direction.
According to the Defense Ministry's data, four servicemen from the Armenian side were killed and six others wounded. -0-
