Russian humanitarian aid arrived in Artsakh capital via Askeran
YEREVAN, September 12. /ARKA/. Humanitarian aid sent by the Russian Red Cross through Azerbaijan-controlled territory has passed through the checkpoint in the town of Askeran and arrived in Nagorno-Karabakh capital Stepanakert, Nagorno-Karabakh authorities reported.
"The Government of the Russian Federation has taken the initiative to provide humanitarian aid to the Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh). Today, on September 12, the humanitarian cargo with the permission of the authorities of the Republic of Artsakh arrived through the town of Askeran on the vehicle of the Russian Red Cross. The aid includes vital goods of Russian production," Karabakh authorities said.
Local news agency Artsakhpress reported citing Mayor of Askeran Hayk Shamiryan, that tens of Karabakh residents , who set up a barrier on the Aghdam–Askeran road in July, demonstrating their objection to Azerbaijan’s suggestions that the region receive humanitarian aid from Baku, did not let the vehicle with Russian aid into Artsakh, but later changed their mind .
