Armenian president Serzh Sargsyan topped the list of most frequently cited politicians by local mass media in 2012 April, according to MediaGid, the first Armenian automatic news processing and handling system.

YEREVAN, May 4. /ARKA /. Armenian president Serzh Sargsyan topped the list of most frequently cited politicians by local mass media in 2012 April, according to MediaGid, the first Armenian automatic news processing and handling system.
The project was launched in 2010 November by All Media closed joint stock company. MediaGid has a special program analysing news and stories on similar topics, which are divided by categories. News items are provided by Armenian mass media. The main principles of the system is timely reporting, accessibility and impartiality. The popularity index is formed on the basis of news reports received from partner websites which mention the names of Armenian politicians. In April Mediagid index 3,498 mentioning of 108 Armenian politicians.
Mediagid coordinator Armen Martirosian told ARKA that the popularity rating revealed that president Serzh Sargsyan was the most frequently cited Armenian political figure by Armenian mass media in 2012 April being cited a total of 739 times.
The second most popular political figure was prime minister Tigran Sarkisian (437 citations), who was followed by education and science minister Armen Ashotian (164 citations), foreign minister Edward Nalbandian (155 citations) and Yerevan mayor Taron Margaryan (154 citations).
The popularity rating of Armenian companies and commercial banks was topped by VivaCell-MTS telecommunications (46 citations), which was followed by Ameriabank, NASDAQ OMX Armenia stock exchange, ArmenTel telecommunications company and the Union of Information Technology Enterprises (UITE).
Political news were most popular, followed by social news, economy and business, world news and technology and communications news. Mediagid handles now over 1200 pieces of information daily in Armenian Russian and English languages.
