Simonyan: peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan should be brought to quick conclusion

YEREVAN, May 6. /ARKA/. The process of concluding a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan can and should be brought to an end as  quickly as possible, Armenian National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan said.

He said the Armenian side is strongly committed to this approach. Commenting on Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's statement that the peace treaty fully reflects Baku's approaches, Simonyan said the document incorporates international norms, "which also reflect our approaches."

"In all those issues where there are contradictions, the Armenian side rejects them, and the proof of this is that the sides have exchanged several versions of the peace treaty," he said.

At the same time, the speaker did not say which disagreement is the main one, but noted that the sides are discussing all the points in turn.

"It is very important that there is no room for discrepancies. [...] All formulations should be clear for both sides," Simonyan added.

On April 26, Armenia received Azerbaijan's latest version of peace proposals for consideration.

Earlier, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that three main principles of the peace treaty have been agreed upon with Azerbaijan - mutual recognition of each other's territorial integrity, border delimitation based on the Alma-Ata declaration and reopening of all regional communications. -0-
