There are no Armenians in Afghanistan, Armenian foreign ministry says
YEREVAN, August 16. /ARKA/. The press secretary of the Armenian Foreign Ministry Vahan Hunanyan said the ministry did not have information about the presence of Armenian citizens in Afghanistan.
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has done some work in this direction through various channels, but at the moment there is no information about the presence of Armenian citizens in Afghanistan," he said in a statement.
He noted that no applications were received from the citizens of Armenia either.
Taliban fighters entered Kabul on Sunday without a fight and began to occupy government offices abandoned by government forces, Al Arabiya reported.
Afghan President Ashraf Ghani left the country. Later, the Taliban announced the establishment of control over all areas of the Afghan capital.
The Armenian peacekeeping platoon that was in a peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan since 2010 returned home in early March of 2021.
The peacekeeping unit was part of the Northern Command of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) under the command of the Federal Republic of Germany protecting the airport in the city of Kunduz.
Part of Armenian peacekeepers were deployed in the capital Kabul and in Mazār-i-Sharīf and Kunduz.
A total of 3,200 servicemen participated in the Armenian peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan.-0-
