There is no justification for provocative actions of Azerbaijani armed forces last night - Armenian Foreign Ministry

YEREVAN, April 6. /ARKA/. In a statement issued on the morning of April 6, the Armenian Foreign Ministry condemned Azerbaijan for the provocation committed by its forces at the border last night.
“The provocative actions of the Azerbaijani armed forces on April 6 overnight have no justification. By opening indiscriminate fire on many sections of the border, with the movement of dozens of military vehicles, Azerbaijan clearly pursued a provocative goal: to force the Armenian armed forces units to take similar countermeasures to obtain facts that would justify its disinformation campaign of recent times,” the statement said.
It said that the Armenian armed forces, having assessed the situation, refrained from retaliatory actions that could contribute to further escalation, after which the situation along the border calmed down.
“The Armenian Foreign Ministry confirms that Armenia is not interested in aggravating the situation in the region and calls on Azerbaijan to stop actions aimed at increasing the tension along the border.
We also consider Azerbaijan’s statements regarding the creation of defense structures on the sovereign territory of Armenia unjustified, since reforming the army and army infrastructure is the sovereign right of any country. At the same time, we remind that Armenia’s proposals for a mirror withdrawal of troops from the Armenian-Azerbaijani state border, the introduction of mutual arms control mechanisms, the signing of a non-aggression pact and the demilitarization of territories adjacent to the state border remain unanswered by Azerbaijan.
The accusations against Armenia of acquiring weapons for defense purposes are also incomprehensible, since Azerbaijan acquires many times more weapons than Armenia, about which Armenia receives comprehensive information.
In this context, we officially confirm Armenia’s commitment to the peace agenda, as well as our proposal to Azerbaijan to create mechanisms for mutual arms control and demilitarization of territories adjacent to the border between the two countries,” the Armenian Foreign Ministry said.
According to the Ministry of Defense of Armenia, on the night of April 5-6, units of the Azerbaijani armed forces opened indiscriminate fire of varying intensity from small arms of various calibers at the positions of the Armenian armed forces in the vicinity of Sotk, Verin Shirzhi and Kut villages in the Gegharkunik region, the village of Aravus in Syunik region, Chinari and Movses villages in Tavush region. From 21:00 to 23:00, active movement of military equipment of the Azerbaijani armed forces was observed in the direction of Mount Ishkhanasar. -0-
