Trump declared success on the path to peace following meeting with Pashinyan and Aliyev
YEREVAN, August 8. /ARKA/. US President Donald Trump commented on the declaration signed following a meeting with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on August 8 in Washington.
“With this agreement, we have finally achieved success, we are moving towards peace. Armenia and Azerbaijan commit to permanently ending any kind of war, opening trade and diplomatic relations, respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the two countries. The two leaders will have good relations, even excellent ones, you will meet often. And if suddenly it doesn’t work out, call me, I will sort it out,” Trump said.
According to him, this is a “very comprehensive peace agreement.”
Speaking about the corridor, the US President said that the operation could be extended for 99 years, adding that he expects major infrastructure developments from American companies.
"They are looking forward to getting access to these two countries and investing heavily," Trump said.
He noted that Armenia and Azerbaijan had been at war with each other for a long time - 35 years, "and now they are friends and will be friends for a long time."
"It is a great honor for me to welcome you to the White House, to this historic summit between Armenia and Azerbaijan. I love it when good people come together, two great leaders. I want to congratulate these two individuals with their own vision - Prime Minister Pashinyan and President Aliyev, who came to Washington to sign this historic declaration," Trump said.
