YEREVAN, September 27. /ARKA/. The U.S. is considering the sale of American armaments to Armenia to help defend itself against Azerbaijan, reported the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA).

'For the first time since the rebirth of Armenian independence in 1991, U.S. policymakers - under sustained bipartisan pressure from Congress - are considering the sale of U.S. armaments to help Armenia defend itself against relentless (Turkey-backed) Azerbaijani aggression and ethnic-cleansing,' ANCA said in a Facebook post.

Earlier, U.S. Congresswoman Jackie Speier announced that she will introduce a resolution condemning Azerbaijani war crimes against Armenians. She said “let me make it crystal clear” that the U.S. has no doubt that Azerbaijan invaded Armenia.

Also, Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Robert Menendez called on Secretary of State Antony Blinken to "halt all security assistance to Azerbaijan," citing a cut-off of military aid as "an important opportunity to stand with the Armenian people as they attempt to repel an authoritarian assault."

About two weeks ago, it emerged that Congressman Adam Schiff drafted a resolution demanding a total ban on U.S. aid to Azerbaijan. It calls on Azerbaijan to immediately stop attacking Armenia and Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), stressing the importance of Armenian sovereignty.

On September 13, Azerbaijan launched an unprovoked and unjustified military aggression against Armenia. Using heavy artillery, Multiple Rocket Launchers and combat UAVs, the Azerbaijani armed forces shelled 36 residential areas and communities, including towns of Goris, Jermuk, Vardenis, Kapan, Geghamasar deep within the sovereign territory of Armenia.

The Azerbaijani attack deliberately targeted civilian population and vital civilian infrastructures. -0-
