UK intends to diversify trade and security relations with Armenia
YEREVAN, November 14. /ARKA/. The United Kingdom will expand trade and security ties with Armenia by building closer cooperation and diversifying economic relations, United Kingdom Minister for European Affairs Leo Docherty said on Monday.
Docherty made this commitment during the first UK-Armenia strategic dialog with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, based on discussions around common interests, the British Embassy in Armenia reported.
Docherty was said to welcome the ongoing Armenia-UK cooperation in the areas of governance and the rule of law, which helps strengthen Armenia's political and economic resilience.
"We had a really positive discussion during the first UK-Armenia Strategic Dialogue meeting. There is considerable positive momentum and opportunity to strengthen and deepen our bilateral relationship," he said.
Docherty reiterated the UK's commitment to supporting democratic and governance reforms in Armenia.
This fiscal year, the UK has allocated £1.8 million through the Good Governance Fund (GGF) to funded projects in Armenia that promote inclusion, innovation and economic growth.
The strategic dialog held on Monday coincided with the opening of the new building of the Armenian Embassy in London.
Docherty is expected to continue discussing the Strategic Dialogue in Yerevan during his visit scheduled for next week. -0-
