Uruguay to open embassy in Armenia

YEREVAN, August 16. /ARKA/. Uruguay will open an embassy in Armenia, Uruguayan Foreign Minister Francisco Bustillo said on Monday in Yerevan during a joint press conference with Armenia’s acting Foreign Minister Armen Grigoryan.

"We discussed ways to deepen our relations, which, I am sure, will help the two countries expand cooperation. Uruguay will continue taking confident steps to establish strong and mutually beneficial ties with Armenia that will benefit both sides and help them achieve their goals, protecting the interests of each other," he said.

In turn, Grigoryan said that the Armenian-Uruguayan relations are developing dynamically: mutual visits, contacts at various levels both in bilateral and multilateral formats are of a regular nature.

"We agreed that there is a great untapped potential in the economic sphere and are ready to take practical steps to encourage cooperation such areas as information technology, banking, water management and renewable energy," he said.

According to him, the Uruguayan minister is scheduled to hold a series of meetings with competent persons in Yerevan to discuss development of economic cooperation.

Grigoryan also noted that Armenia highly appreciates the principled position of Uruguay regarding the Azerbaijani-Turkish aggression against Artsakh in the autumn of 2020.

He recalled that the Uruguayan legislature condemned the deployment of mercenaries by Turkey in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone, as well as cases of violation of human rights by Azerbaijan and shelling of civilian infrastructures.

"All this confirms that, despite the geographical remoteness, Armenia and Uruguay are committed to strengthen their ties based on common values and worldviews," the minister said. --0--
