The US embassy in Armenia strictly condemns the destruction of the Saint Martyrs Armenian Church in Syria’s Deir el-Zor, the press office of the embassy reported.
YEREVAN, September 24. /ARKA/. The US embassy in Armenia strictly condemns the destruction of the Saint Martyrs Armenian Church in Syria’s Deir el-Zor, the press office of the embassy reported.
The church was exploded by the militants representing the Islamic State for Iraq and Levant ISIL on September 21 at 11.30 o clock.
This senseless act of destruction demonstrates yet again the utter disregard the terrorist organization ISIL has for the rich religious and cultural heritage of the Middle East, says the statement.
US Secretary of State Kerry said ISIL committed abuses of human rights and international law and presents a global terrorist threat. The United States urges the international community to strengthen united effort to degrade and destroy ISIL, Kerry said.
It was Deir el-Zor and the desert around it that was picked by the Young Turks government during 1915 Armenian genocide as an open-air concentration camp for hundreds of thousands of Western Armenians to be killed, starved to death or die from epidemics. –0—
