YEREVAN, November 13. /ARKA/. Vazgen Manukyan resigned Wednesday as head of the Public Council and explained in a letter the reason of his resignation. "The new authorities had an exceptional chance to move toward development of the country and consolidate people over national problems, contribute to our citizens' welfare, building more democratic and effective national state," he says in his letter.
Manukyan thinks the authorities have taken another road. In his opinion, that hatred and distrust atmosphere just emerged in the country and the public split amid the growing danger and challenges over Artsakh.
He also think that the authorities should "smooth down confrontation and form the atmosphere of solidarity". He find the Public Council headed by his the most effective instrument for that.
However, he says, the authorities continue discussing projects and taking steps aimed at establishing transitional justice, which implies excessive property seizure from officials if they can't explain this property origin.
Manukyan is also unhappy about reforms in education and judicial system saying "their aim is to solve political problems".
"At the last session of the Public Council, I said that I have tried to meet with the prime minister to find room for easing tension in the society and prevent dangerous to the state steps, but in vain," he said in his letter. And therefore, Manukyan found his activity in the Public Council senseless and decided to quit the council. He informed the government about that.
Manukyan has been in office since 2009. --0--
