Vigorous efforts to lift Lachin corridor blockade continue- Russian foreign ministry

YEREVAN, January 27. /ARKA/. Russian Foreign Ministry representative Maria Zakharova said that efforts towards lifting the blockade of the Lachin corridor are continuing.
Lachin corridor the only road that links Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh has been blocked by Azerbaijani activists, sponsored by their government, since December 12 creating a slow-motion humanitarian catastrophe for 120,000 population of the region.
"The Russian Defense Ministry and the Russian peacekeeping command in cooperation with the Russian Foreign Ministry are in constant contact with all the parties concerned. Vigorous efforts aimed at normalizing the situation continue," Zakharova said at a press briefing today.
She said that "unlike most external players (EU and USA), who limit themselves to statements calling for de-escalation, the Russian side is looking for solutions and providing humanitarian assistance on the ground."
"We call for the full unblocking of the Lachin corridor in accordance with the statements of the leaders of Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan of 9-November 2020 and appeal to Baku and Yerevan to show the political will to settle the existing differences as soon as possible," Zakharova said.
Last week Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia continued painstaking and difficult work with both Armenia and Azerbaijan to have the Lachin corridor reopened. -0-
