YEREVAN, 16 October. /ARKA/. The US has never linked the Armenian - Azerbaijani peace treaty to the COP-29 summit, State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said.
‘We never tied the agreement to COP. We wanted to see a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan months ago and have been pushing for a peace agreement, ultimately hoped to get one over the line. But that’s up to the two parties, not the United States,’ Miller told a press briefing.
The UN COP 29 summit will be held in Azerbaijani 11-22 November.
Armenia received an invitation to the summit several months ago, but the country’s authorities have not yet made a decision on whether to attend it or not.
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has several times proposed that Armenia and Azerbaijan sign the agreed part of the peace treaty (13 out of 16 points) before the COP29 summit, and to continue discussing and agreeing on the rest later. But the president of Azerbaijan called such an approach ‘unrealistic.’-0-
