Yelk nominates Pashinyan as candidate for prime minister
YEREVAN, May 3. / ARKA /. The opposition Yelk parliamentary faction has formally nominated today MP Nikol Pashinyan for the post of prime minister, Armen Galjyan, an aide to Pashinyan, told Arka news agency.

Nikol Pashinyan led the largest political protests in Armenia's recent history that forced longtime leader Serzh Sargsyan to resign.

On May 1 the parliament failed to elect Nikol Pashinyan as prime minister. It  will again gather on May 8 to try and elect a prime minister. If it fails, the National Assembly will be dissolved and early elections called.

The parliamentary faction of the Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) that has the majority in the legislature, said in a statement on May 2  it will support  Nikol Pashinyan’s second bid to become prime minister of the country.

The head of the faction, Vahram Baghdasaryan, said Republican lawmakers will back the candidate that will be nominated by at least one third of the total number of lawmakers.

Ararat Mirzoyan, a Yelk MP, said today that they have collected the necessary number of signatures for the nomination of Nikol Pashinyan for the post of prime minister.

Pashinyan said on his Facebook page that he met today with senior members of the Republican Party, who confirmed that the faction will support his candidacy.

Pashinyan called on his supporters to again gather in the Republic Square on the voting day to watch online the special parliament session.-0-
