Yerevan and Brussels Discuss Steps to Liberalize Visa Regime

Arpine Sargsyan, the Armenian Interior Minister, held a meeting with Vasilis Maragos, the head of the EU Delegation to Armenia, according to the press service of the Interior Ministry.

YEREVAN, August 11. /ARKA/. Arpine Sargsyan, the Armenian Interior Minister, held a meeting with Vasilis Maragos, the head of the EU Delegation to Armenia, according to the press service of the Interior Ministry.
Sargsyan highly appreciated the close cooperation between the two countries in a number of areas. She presented the ministry's toward visa liberalization, emphasizing the introduction of a biometric system and police reform.
Maragos stressed the importance of effective cooperation, which is already yielding tangible results. He also discussed the work carried out by the EU within the framework of the Action Plan.
During the meeting, they discussed future joint programs, opportunities to organize high-level meetings, and cooperation with EU member states on visa liberalization, border management reforms, Armenian citizenship issues, and measures to combat corruption and human trafficking.
They also discussed EU support in fighting crime, introducing a robust criminal investigation system, and deepening cooperation with Europol and Frontex.
The Armenia-EU Visa Liberalization Dialogue was officially launched in September 2024. From February 10 to 14, 2025, EU experts conducted the first mission within the framework of the Visa Liberalization Dialogue.
The purpose of the visit was to conduct a comprehensive assessment of Armenia's preparedness in areas such as document security and border and migration management. This assessment will contribute to the development of an action plan for visa liberalization.-0-
