Zakharova calls the completion of negotiations between Yerevan and Baku a significant step towards security in the region

YEREVAN, March 21. /ARKA/. The completion of negotiations on the text of the "Agreement on Peace and the Establishment of Interstate Relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia" marks a significant step toward the long-awaited security and prosperity in the South Caucasus, said Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova.
"We welcome the progress that has been made in the peace process between Baku and Yerevan. There are still several important issues on the peace agenda, including global issues, that are waiting to be addressed," Zakharova noted at a briefing the day before.
According to her, these issues include unblocking transport and economic ties in the region, delimitation, and the humanitarian block.
"We reaffirm our readiness to provide our Azerbaijani and Armenian colleagues with support on all tracks, in the form and to the extent required by both sides," Zakharova said.
On the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan
On March 13, the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the agreement on the draft treaty "On the Establishment of Peace and Interstate Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan" and the completion of negotiations on its approval. The Ministry stated that the document is ready for signing and that Yerevan is prepared to begin consultations with Baku on the timing and location of the signing.
RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that the current content of the draft peace treaty with Azerbaijan can be seen as a mutually acceptable compromise for Armenia. According to him, the two points of the draft treaty, which the parties were unable to agree on for some time but eventually reached a compromise, concern the non-deployment of third-country forces along the entire length of the Armenia-Azerbaijan border, as well as the mutual withdrawal of claims filed against each other in international courts and the non-implementation of actions against each other. The President of Azerbaijan had also previously pointed out these two disagreements.
