A solid waste management program designed for Armenian regions of  Kotayk and Gegharkunik has been launched in the community of Hrazdan, the administrative center of Kotayk.

YEREVAN, July 8. /ARKA/. A solid waste management program designed for Armenian regions of Kotayk and Gegharkunik has been launched in the community of Hrazdan, the administrative center of Kotayk.

According to the government press service, the €14.8 million program was implemented in cooperation between the Armenian government and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

As part of the program, a new sanitary landfill was built in the community of Hrazdan and waste transfer stations in the settlements of Martuni and Akunk.

At the same time, in order to implement a comprehensive waste collection system in accordance with EU standards, waste collection schemes were developed for all settlements in the two regions and most effective waste collection routes were drawn up. The necessary machinery and equipment were acquired.

The communities of the two regions have established and registered the LLC “Solid Waste Management of Kotayk and Gegharkunik Regions” to provide waste collection services and operate landfills and transfer stations.
