Armenian Ministry of Health: the state will define the highest level of medicament prices in Armenia

The highest level of medicament prices will be defined in Armenia, said Harutyun Kushkyan, Armenian Minister of Health.
YEREVAN, May 26. /ARKA/. The highest level of medicament prices will be defined in Armenia, said Harutyun Kushkyan, Armenian Minister of Health.
Such a decision is conditioned by the necessity of policy exchange in the sphere of medicament regulation, particularly the situation in Armenia when due to the threat of “swine flu” a number of companies in Armenia increased prices of some medicaments without permission.
“Adoption of restrictions by the government will allow to regulate the situation in medicament market and define the most available prices”, said Kushkyan.
Volume of import of medicaments in Armenia was $60.38 million in 10 months of 2009 versus $83.93 million in 2008.
Volume of production of Armenian medicaments was increased by 113 million drams up to 1.737 billion drams in the mentioned period. During 10 months of 2009 Armenia exported pharmaceutical products in the amount of $2.78 million versus $3.46 million in 2008.
There are 12 production companies of medicaments in Armenia. Only 14% or 445 manes of all the medicaments introduced in the Armenian market are produced within the country. 22% or 718 names of medicaments are imported from NIS countries and the remaining percent – from other countries.
