Terms of marriage registration procedure will be curtailed from one month to one week in Armenia.
YEREVAN, May 16. /ARKA/. Terms of marriage registration procedure will be curtailed from one month to one week in Armenia.
Deputy Justice Minister Aram Orbelyan said this would lessen corruption in marriage registration system.
The National Assembly has already amended the appropriate law at the first reading.
The deputy minister said that the large number of marriages is not registered only because of red-tape difficulties, and this creates certain juridical problems in the future.
“About 18,000 marriages are registered in Armenia every year,” Orbelyan said. “Some 13,000 or 14,000 people apply for registration of their fatherhood. As we know, this is consequence of unregistered marriages. I think this problem will be partially solved after simplification of the marriage registration procedure.”
According to statistical reports, over 17,900 marriages were registered in Armenia in 2010 – 4.2% year-on-year decline.
The number of registered divorces grew 5.9% in 2010, compared with 2009, to 2,900.
The average age of people applying for marriage registration rose – fiancés’ age reached 29 and fiancées’ 24.9 in 2010.
The age of men who applied for the first marriage averaged 28.1, and women 24.4 against 26 and 21 a few years ago.-0-
